Withdraw from Iraq: Not Really

Obama announced his plan to withdraw troops from Iraq within 18 months claiming that all combat troops will be out of Iraq by April 31th, 210. There will still be 50,000 troops left in Iraq–I thought leaving meant not being there.

As was expected, this end of the Iraq war is more of a show. We are still going to be occupying Iraq. We are going to continue to antagonize the people in the Middle East by being an occupying force. That is the reason why they hate us and continue to plot ways to attack us.

“I think the plan is significantly different than the plan Obama had during the campaign,” said McCain, referring to Obama’s campaign pledge to pull combat troops out of Iraq within 16 months of taking office if possible.

What’s new? Politicians are liars.

“The last of the U.S. troops are to be out of Iraq no later than Dec. 31, 2011. That’s the deadline set under an agreement the two countries sealed during George W. Bush’s presidency. Obama has no plans to extend that date or pursue any permanent troop presence in Iraq.”

As Obama decides to escalate the conflict in Afghanistan, it will be more and more likely that we will find reasons to keep bases in Iraq. We need to leave Iraq completely immediately. The terrorists are not attacking us for our Freedoms. They are attacking us because we are meddling in their affairs.

It is not our business to tell them how to live. Democracy cannot be spread by the barrel of a gun–not so sure we want to even be spreading Democracy. Liberty and Freedom can absolutely not be spread by killing and violating the very principles they stand for.

Israel Bomb, US Rebuild

Obama has pledged $900 million to rebuild Gaza after Israel decimated it earlier in the year. I am not against helping the people of Gaza get their life back in order. I was against Israel’s ridiculous invasion of the territory. The irony is that we give Israel money to bomb the living daylights out of Gaza and then we pay to fix it!

Almost the same thing we do in Iraq: blow up all their infrastructure so that we can rebuild it. Great idea! In a time when we our economy is getting worse by the day, where did we get $900 million for Gaza? Did we cut spending somewhere? The government has no savings. How are we funding this?

“Administration officials said Monday, according to The New York Times, that the aid would not be given to Hamas, which controls Gaza, but would go through nongovernmental organziations.”

I’m also unsure how this is going to happen. If Hamas controls Gaza and you give money to organizations in Gaza, how do you make sure Hamas doesn’t get a hold of some of it?

Obama’s Economic Week

Economics is going to take center stage for the Obama administration this week. Obama is having a Financial Stability Summit with a variety of people including cabinet members, economic aides, and Congressional leaders. He will then speak to Congress on Tuesday at 9PM about the economy.

On Thursday, Obama will unveil his budget and plan of action to “fix” the economy. The markets fell off a cliff last week and is still sinking today. The markets may or may not rally after Obama unveils how he will manipulate the economy and cause capital to move into areas that the market feels it should not.

Obama also pledged to cut the budget deficit in half by 2013. I suppose if you increase the deficit enough, cutting it in half would be less difficult. $500 billion deficit looks better than $1 trillion but, it is still pretty astronomical.

Chances are all the spending will do nothing to fix the economy and surely make things worse. It hasn’t worked in the past. Even the crazy Keynesians like Paul Krugman agree it hasn’t worked in the past. They just think there wasn’t enough spending–how laughable.

Dina Gusovsky and Ron Paul on Israel/Gaza

I’ve noticed that the search term for my friend, Dina, brings in visitors so I’m sure she won’t mind me using her name some more–mutual promotion, I guess. Dina Gusovsky of Russia Today interviewed Ron Paul on the Israel/Gaza conflict recently. I’ve certainly made my point clear on this subject. Dina does a great job and Ron Paul explains the position of Liberty superbly.

Israel: The Terrorist

I’ve been refraining from writing anything on this particular topic for a variety of reasons but, Israel is getting ridiculously out of control. I’ve stayed relatively up to date on the status of the invasion and occupation of Gaza and things are not getting better. I had made comments about it on some of my friends’ statuses on Facebook throughout the week and posted a video from Russia Today about it.

My position on this is easy. Israel is the aggressor and should remove its military forces from Gaza immediately. There is not a dime’s worth of valid justification for what they have done. It is ridiculous to say that it is okay to kill a few hundred people in an attempt to eliminate a handful of terrorists. Gaza is not a nation; they have no army or navy. There is no means of defense against the bullying force of Israel. The people of Gaza are in fact fish in a barrel–there is no where for them to go and they are innocent.

Israel has now bombed a UN school. Does no one else find this rather insane? The UN is even reporting that there were no militants in the school! So, seriously, what the hell? You can’t just say there was gunfire coming from the direction where a school is and then bomb it knowing that there are innocent children inside.

The world is protesting against Israel’s actions. Opposition is heating up throughout Latin America. The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, is receiving protests from the German people against her support of Israel. The Canadians are in protest. And my hometown of NY had a 25,000-strong protest against Israel’s murderous actions. This is not death by forest fires or famine or drought or anything else natural. This is a completely preventable disaster: stop dropping bombs.

To justify Israel’s actions is about as logical as blaming a bystander who gets killed in a sudden gun fight. The fault is not of the bystander but, of the morons who are shooting at each other. Except in this case, one side has firecrackers while the other has bazookas.

Washington D.C. is–to no surprise–defending Israel. And why wouldn’t they? Where do you think Israel got the bombs from? Without the United States government providing Israel with the greatest firepower in the region, this kind of destruction would not even be possible. Israel would have to think twice before launching a completely one-sided attack.

When an individual with a bomb strapped to his body kills 30 people. We call him a terrorist. When a government drops a bomb and kills 30 people, we have the audacity to say it was just or understandable or okay. After all, this is what happens in war! That kind of logic is asinine. Governments are not above the law. Israel is a terrorist. Are we going to see Israel on the no-fly list now?

Israel: get out of Gaza now. If you want to prevent the “rockets” from entering, borrow one our missile defense systems. If you already have one–which I’m pretty sure you do–you might want to press the “on” button. Stop killing the innocent.
