You gotta watch this. I’ve been writing about the recent Georgian/Russian conflict and have placed the fault on Georgia. That video is an account of what happened from a 12 year old from the Bay Area who so happened to have been in South Ossetia visiting family.
Russia has defied a truce with Georgia to cease-fire and we are sending troops into the area. We have no business in that conflict and should stay out of it. Our politicians can lecture Russia about invading countries if they want to although, those living in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. The last thing we currently need is to start a conflict with Russia.
The situation over there is hardly as clear cut as the media is reporting. Georgia had invaded South Ossetia–a “breakaway” territory. It so happens that South Ossetia has a great deal of Russian citizens and Russia used that as an excuse to invade Georgia in the name of protecting its own citizens. Russia has as much a right to protect its citizens as we do if we had Americans living near the Mexican border who were in danger. Of course, Russia has probably taken this a little further than was necessary.
This is a problem that Russia and Georgia will have to settle–not a problem that we should involve our military in. We are not in a position to become involved in any more wars–especially not one with Russia. This is not a third world Middle Eastern country–it’s a former superpower. They actually have nukes.
